Got questions? You’re in the right place.
Libraries offer more than just books these days, and figuring out how everything works isn’t always straightforward. Whether you’re trying to renew a book, reserve a study room, or access our digital collections, we’ve gathered answers to the most common questions right here.
How do I log in to my Rangeley Public Library Account?
Please enter your barcode (14-digit number on your library card) and PIN – Note: for most users the initial default PIN is set to the last four digits of the phone number associated with your library account. If that does not work, please contact the library. We recommend changing your PIN after logging in by clicking on “My Record” and expanding the “Change Logon” section of the page
How do I open a Rangeley Public Library Account?
Rangeley Public Library accounts are free to open for both residents and non-residents. Please stop by the library to fill out an application or you can download a digital copy of our application here and bring it with you.
How do I renew a book?
When you log in to your account, the books you currently have checked out will appear. Put a check in the box(es) of the item(s) you wish to renew, then click on the green “renew” button below. Note: If your book is overdue, you will not have the option to renew. Please call or stop by the library to have a librarian assist you.
How do I find a book in the catalog?
Click on the “Search” tab, and choose “keyword” or “Begins with”. We recommend saving “Advanced” for some time after you have gotten comfortable with the basic search features. Type in the title, or the author, or the subject you are looking for. All of the items available in the entire MILS system (a consortium of 30 or more smallish Maine libraries) will appear. First, look under the icon on the left. This will tell you whether this item is a book, a DVD, an audiobook, etc. Next, look at the bottom of the print section where it says “Local availability” and “System Availability”. If by local you see 0 (of 1), this means that Rangeley owns one copy, but it is not available right now. If it says 0 (of 0), this means that Rangeley does not own a copy. Under system availability, you may see something like 5 (of 12). This would mean that there are 12 copies in the entire MILS system, and that 5 of them are currently available to borrow.
How do I hold/reserve a book?
Once you have found an item that you want to borrow, look at the boxes to the right of the item. If you click on “Availability”, you will see a listing of the libraries which have this item along with the call number which shows where it is located in each library. If you click on “Place request”, you will be able to ask for this item to be held for you at the Rangeley Public Library, or to have it sent from another library by inter-library loan.
Do you have computers or WiFi I can use?
There are six public access computers available whenever the library is open. WiFi is accessible outside the building 24 hours per day.
